General Description: Mono Hot Springs is magical place in the middle of paradise for the family and nature lovers. It is rustic resort gem. Mono Hot Spring resort is in the middle of the gorgeous high Sierra Nevada Mountains. The Pacific Crest Trail runs close. The resort has a rustic bathhouse with showers, bathtubs and spa like tub built with stone. There is 10 different hot springs to choose from on the other side of the river from the resort. The temperatures range from 85-107 degrees.
Location: 90 miles northeast of Fresno in the Sierra Nevada National Forest.
Directions: From Fresno on the Ca99 take highway Ca168 to highway Ca41. It's about 3 hours from Fresno.
Accessibility: Mono Hot Springs is in the middle of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. You have to go over three mountains and past 3 lakes then take a (one and half laned) shared road the last 45 minutes. Mono is deep in nature. The road is paved but bumpy. You need a good vehicle with good brakes. The accessibility can be hard. The springs are across the river. You need to forge the river. The local custom is crossing a secured log across the river. You can always access the hot springs by parking next to the bridge and hiking down the river. The hot springs are in different areas. The resort has a map.
Hot Springs: Mono hot springs is in the middle of the gorgeous Sierra Nevada National Forest. This is Ansel Adams territory. There is 10 different hot springs along the San Joaquin River. The adventure is to find them all. Old Pedro hot springs is the hottest. The temperature is about 107 degrees. Little Eden Hot Springs is what the name suggests. The little pond is body temperature and you can make a mud face along the shores. This is a local practice.
Hot Springs Tips: Mono is closed from the fall to the spring. The access gate is closed. Contact Mono or Edison to determine if the pass is open. This is a long drive into the middle of Ansel Adams High Sierras. Make sure you are gassed up. The resort has a general store for supplies. There is a restaurant at the resort normally open from labor day to memorial. Full bathhouse with showers. There is camping on the river. The resort has cabins for rent from no bathroom rustic to a honeymoon suite with its own natural hot springs water bath. Bring your fishing poles. The fishing is good. Holidays are crowded. Making reservations is highly recommended. This hot springs is pet friendly. Dogs need to be on a leash. No dogs in hot springs. No glass please.
