General Description: Tassajara Hot Springs is a private Zen retreat hideaway located in the beautiful Los Padres Forest along the Tassajara Creek in Central California. This is a special sanctuary because it is the first Zen monastery in the western world. This all inclusive Geothermal experience includes meals, accommodations, and soaking. This spiritual zen center offer an array of retreats, workshops along with a quiet unique Japanese style "onsen" soaking experience.
Location: From Salinas, California it is 45 miles or about an hour and 50 minute drive.

Accessibility: Tassajara Hot Springs accessibility is good. The only vehicle access to Tassajara is via the 14-mile dirt road that starts in Carmel Valley. Those without four-wheel drive should arrange for shuttle pick-up. Once at the hot Springs retreat it is a moderate walk around the property.
Hot Springs: Tassajara Hot Springs is in of the tradition of the Japanese Onsen soaking style. The hot spring bathhouses are divided into a separate soaking accommodations that are clothing optional. One for men and the other for women. The bathhouses have a sundeck to relax with communal showers, two hot plunges, sauna room, private bath. There is access to the wonderful and refreshing Tassajara Creek.
Hot Spring Tips: Tassajara Hot Springs is open to the public only in the summer season. Reservations are required. Tassajara Hot Springs has overnight accommodations The Zen resort offers day use. Tassajara observes special quiet-time hours with respect to our residents and students beginning at 8 pm and ending after soji (temple cleaning) at 8:30 am the following morning. Remove your shoes when entering guest rooms and meditation halls. There is no internet or cell phone reception and that the way this resort wants it. This hot springs is not pet friendly. Service animals are welcome. Clothing is optional at the Zen Retreat.
